Ana Carla Maza – cello, voice, and Latin American roots in contemporary jazz

Ana Carla Maza is a Cuban cellist, singer, and songwriter, born in Havana in 1995 into a family of musicians with Cuban and Chilean roots.

Trained between Cuba, Spain, and Paris, she developed a classical foundational technique that progressively opened up to jazz, improvisation, and Latin American popular traditions —son, bolero, bossa nova, habanera— without abandoning instrumental rigor.

Her artistic proposal places the cello at the center of her own writing, where the instrument operates as a melodic, rhythmic, and expressive axis simultaneously. She has performed in more than 25 countries and 400 concerts, taking the stage at venues and festivals such as Jazz à Vienne, the EFG London Jazz Festival, and Blue Note Milano, and has shared the stage with figures like Chucho Valdés.

Her album ALAMAR (2026) represents the most mature synthesis of that journey: a work written, produced, and performed from a place of total artistic freedom.
