Blikan – Cecilie Strange

Blikan is the third studio album as a leader by Danish tenor saxophonist and composer Cecilie Strange, released by the April Records label. The work functions as the conceptual counterpart to her acclaimed previous album, Blue.

The record was tracked in Denmark alongside a quartet featuring Peter Rosendal on piano, Thommy Andersson on double bass, and Jacob Høyer on drums. The defining characteristic of this session lies in the fact that it constituted the very first musical and improvisational encounter among the four players.

Strange's compositions fall within the contemporary Scandinavian jazz aesthetic, characterized by the use of slow tempos, minimalist frameworks, and atmospheres that translate the Nordic landscape through a melancholic yet luminous tonal palette.

The repertoire of Blikan stands out for its dynamic and spatial breadth, prioritizing the organic interaction of the musicians and acoustic clarity over dense or overloaded formal structures.
