Cecilie Strange – Saxophonist and Composer

Cecilie Strange is a Danish tenor saxophonist and composer whose artistic vision sits at the center of contemporary Scandinavian jazz, blending European melancholic tradition with ambient exploration.

Musically trained in Odense under the tutelage of saxophonist Hans Ulrik, and subsequently in the New York scene with Chris Cheek, Strange has developed a tenor sax sound characterized by its tonal depth, warmth, and lyrical expressiveness. In addition to leading her own acoustic quartet—with which she has released pivotal works such as Blue and Blikan—she is one half of the ambient electro-jazz duo Kaleiido alongside guitarist Anna Roemer, actively collaborating in cross-genre jazz, pop, and folk music projects.

Her approach to composition is defined by the creation of sonic sketches inspired by the natural environment, where space and silence operate as key structural elements for the interaction of the ensembles she leads.
