Clear Day — Emilie-Claire Barlow

Clear Day is the eleventh album by Canadian singer, arranger, and producer Emilie-Claire Barlow, released on October 23, 2015. The project was produced and arranged by Barlow alongside Steve Webster and recorded with the Metropole Orkest, conducted by Jules Buckley.

The repertoire connects jazz with compositions by Joni Mitchell, Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny, Paul Simon, Van Morrison, Coldplay, The Beatles, Queen and David Bowie. The orchestrations were developed by Webster, Barlow, Shelly Berger, John Metcalfe and Reg Schwager.

The recording combines the Metropole Orkest with musicians including Reg Schwager, Jon Maharaj, Chris Donnelly, Larnell Lewis and Kelly Jefferson, alongside an expanded cast of brass, percussion and vocalists. The result places Barlow’s voice within an orchestral language that moves fluidly between jazz, popular song and contemporary music.

Clear Day won the JUNO Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year in 2016, while Barlow and Webster also received a Producer of the Year nomination for their work on the album.
