Comet, Come to Me – Meshell Ndegeocello

Comet, Come to Me is the eleventh studio album by American bassist, singer, songwriter and producer Meshell Ndegeocello, released in 2014 through Naïve Records.

The album develops a restrained instrumental language in which soul, R&B, dub, rock, jazz and electronic music converge. Ndegeocello works primarily alongside guitarist Chris Bruce, keyboardist Jebin Bruni, and drummer and percussionist Earl Harvin, with additional contributions from musicians including Shara Worden, Doyle Bramhall II, Amp Fiddler and Jonathan Wilson.

Its sonic architecture favors recurring patterns, open space and minimalist arrangements. The bass acts as an organizing force across compositions that move between dub- and reggae-informed structures, atmospheric soundscapes, and forms rooted in soul and rock.

The repertoire includes a reinterpretation of Whodini’s “Friends,” alongside compositions such as “Comet, Come to Me,” “Conviction,” “Modern Time” and “American Rhapsody,” shaping an album concerned equally with sonic exploration and the tensions within human relationships.
