Grégory Privat — pianist, composer, vocalist

Grégory Privat is a pianist and composer originally from Martinique whose work expands the boundaries of contemporary jazz by integrating Afro-Caribbean heritage and formal European training.

The son of the renowned musician José Privat, his instrumental language unifies classical precision, improvisational techniques, and traditional rhythms such as gwoka. Awarded the prestigious Django Reinhardt Prize and named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, Privat has consolidated his career both as a solo artist and at the helm of dynamic ensembles and international collaborations with figures such as Lars Danielsson and Jacques Schwarz-Bart.

Through essential projects like Soley, his compositional approach prioritizes expressive freedom, the exploration of new tonal textures—including the voice—and artistic independence from his platform Buddham Jazz.

His album Phoenix fuses jazz, Creole lyricism, and electronic textures within an acoustic trio. His work explores spirituality, rebirth, and the connection between body and cosmos, forging deep bonds with the audience through voice and improvisation.
