Igor Osypov – Ukrainian Guitarist and Composer

Igor Osypov is a Berlin-based Ukrainian guitarist, composer, and producer whose musical identity intersects contemporary jazz, indie-rock, electronics, and Eastern European folk traditions.

Trained at the Jazz Institute Berlin under the mentorship of icons like Kurt Rosenwinkel and John Hollenbeck, his technical vocabulary is characterized by a crisp sound, a subtle use of distortion, and the construction of fluid linear phrasing with a high dramatic charge. Throughout his career, he has led various ensembles and collaborated with international luminaries such as Logan Richardson, Jason Lindner, Eric Harland, and Nasheet Waits, performing on renowned stages including the Village Vanguard and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

His compositional approach conceives the band as an open system where harmonic sophistication and the raw energy of rock coexist, articulating aesthetic research projects centered around complex concepts like identity and homeland.

His album Motherland?2K14 fuses jazz with electro, punk, and rock, weaving multilingual testimonies from international artists to question exile, identity, and the true meaning of "home."
