Joshua Redman – Saxophonist and Composer

Joshua Redman is one of the most influential saxophonists and composers in contemporary jazz. Throughout his career, he has built a bridge between the tradition of acoustic jazz and an open-minded approach to composition and collective improvisation.

A graduate of Harvard University and winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition, he has collaborated with artists including Pat Metheny, Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride, Brian Blade, Herbie Hancock, Charlie Haden, and Chick Corea, developing a musical language distinguished by melodic depth, harmonic sophistication, and expressive freedom.

Over more than three decades, Redman has released an extensive discography that balances his work as a bandleader with acclaimed collaborations, including James Farm, the SFJAZZ Collective, and the quartet formed alongside The Bad Plus, continually expanding the expressive possibilities of contemporary jazz.

His sound is defined by a rare ability to integrate complex musical structures with a deeply human narrative, allowing every improvisation to emerge as a natural extension of the composition itself.
