Latency – Kathrine Windfeld Big Band

Latency is the second album by Danish pianist and composer Kathrine Windfeld, released via Stunt Records. Recorded in Copenhagen, this work consolidated the international projection of her big band through a repertoire composed entirely by Windfeld, including two collaborations with Mads Sandberg.

The record features a 15-piece transnational ensemble that gathers prominent instrumentalists from the Scandinavian scene, articulating high-precision horn sections and a rhythm section of immense dynamic flexibility. The structures of the tracks blend the harmonic density of contemporary jazz with the propulsive energy of rock, paying special attention to the development of complex textures, volume contrasts, and open spaces for free improvisation.

The repertoire balances high-energy rhythmic compositions and incisive riffs with lyrical, impressionistic ballads, expanding the timbral possibilities of the modern big band into experimental territory.

This album positions Windfeld as a key figure in the revitalization of large orchestras within modern creative music, standing out for her organizational maturity and conceptual originality.
