Mammal Hands – rhythmic expansion in contemporary jazz

Mammal Hands is a British trio formed in Norwich in 2012, whose music sits at the intersection of jazz, electronics, minimalism, and contemporary music.

Composed of Nick Smart (piano), Jordan Smart (saxophone), and Rob Turner(drums), the group develops an approach based on repetition, rhythmic interaction, and the construction of enveloping soundscapes. Their language combines open structures with progressive dynamics, integrating influences from jazz, contemporary classical music, and electronics.

Throughout their career, they have consolidated an identity marked by live intensity and a constant exploration of the relationship between pulse, texture, and form, positioning themselves as one of the most singular acts on the current European scene.
