Maquishti – Patricia Brennan

Maquishti is the debut solo studio album by Mexican vibraphonist, marimbist, and composer Patricia Brennan, originally released in January 2021 under the Valley of Search record label.

The album consists of twelve original instrumental compositions performed entirely acoustically and individually, incorporating guitar effects pedals and extended performance techniques. The repertoire balances rigorous structural frameworks with pieces born from free improvisation in the recording studio, exploring the use of bowing, pitch manipulation, and the physical alteration of the metal bars using everyday objects.

This work represents a turning point in contemporary literature for keyboard percussion within avant-garde jazz and improvised music, breaking away from traditional swing structures to focus on modal research, a conscious use of space, and the interplay between acoustic resonance and electronic processing.
