Migration – Antonio Sánchez

Migration is the debut studio album by Mexican drummer and composer Antonio Sánchez, released in 2007 on the CAM Jazz label. Conceived as an ensemble statement rather than a showcase for the drums, the album laid the foundation for the compositional language that would define much of his later work.

The quintet features Chris Potter, David Sánchez, and Scott Colley, with special appearances by Chick Corea and Pat Metheny. The repertoire combines original compositions with works by Joe Henderson, Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, and Chick Corea, all woven into a unified musical narrative.

Through a contemporary post-bop vocabulary rich in rhythmic sophistication, the album balances carefully crafted structures with collective improvisation, consistently placing the dialogue between the musicians above individual virtuosity.
