SOURCE – Nubya Garcia
SOURCE is the debut album by saxophonist and composer Nubya Garcia, released by Concord Jazz and produced alongside Kwes.
The record features a quartet with Joe Armon-Jones (keyboards/Rhodes), Daniel Casimir (bass/double bass), and Sam Jones (drums), configuring a flexible foundation that integrates multiple rhythmic and timbral traditions.
The compositions articulate a fusion of contemporary jazz with elements of soul, dub, broken beat, and Afro-diasporic music, developed through open structures and an emphasis on collective interaction.
The repertoire moves between introspective passages and high-energy rhythmic developments, maintaining a narrative continuity centered on identity, memory, and community.
The album positions Garcia as a key voice within contemporary jazz, standing out for her ability to integrate tradition, sonic exploration, and cultural discourse into a single language.
