Blue to Red – Chip Wickham

Blue to Red is an album by British flautist, saxophonist and composer Chip Wickham, released on May 8, 2020. Across six original compositions, the record explores spiritual jazz, groove and an atmospheric language shaped by cosmic music.

The ensemble features Chip Wickham on flute and saxophone, Jon Scott on drums, Simon ‘Sneaky’ Houghton on double bass and cello, Dan ‘JD 73’ Goldman on keyboards, Amanda Whiting on harp and Rick Weedon on percussion.

Written and arranged entirely by Wickham, the album uses the contrast between Earth and Mars as its conceptual axis, reflecting on humanity’s relationship with the planet. Its musical language combines spiritual jazz, Rhodes, harp, improvisation and rhythmic structures informed by electronic and club music.

Blue to Red was recorded at Big Noise Studios in Essex, produced and mixed by Chip Wickham, and mastered by Pete Maher.
