Escalandrum – Argentine Jazz Sextet

Escalandrum is an Argentine jazz sextet founded in Buenos Aires in 1999 by drummer Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla, alongside Nicolás Guerschberg on piano, Mariano Sívori on double bass, Gustavo Musso on alto and soprano saxophones, Damián Fogiel on tenor saxophone, and Martín Pantyrer on baritone saxophone and bass clarinet.

The ensemble has developed a collective language in which jazz, tango, and improvisation coexist with elements of Argentine popular music, sustained by a lineup that has remained intact since the project's early years.

Throughout its career, the group has explored both original repertoire and the music of Astor Piazzolla, particularly on projects such as Piazzolla Plays Piazzolla and 100, where the structures of tango are reinterpreted through an essentially jazz-oriented approach.

The continuity of its members has allowed Escalandrum to forge an identity rooted in interplay, open arrangements, and a distinctive sound in which composition serves as the starting point for collective improvisation.
