Hand of Gifts – Domo Branch

Hand of Gifts is the second studio album by American drummer, composer, and bandleader Domo Branch, released through the non-profit record label and community archive Albina Music Trust.

The album features a quartet comprising Domo Branch on drums and composition, Russell Hall on double bass, Tyler Henderson on piano, and Abdias Armenteros on soprano and tenor saxophones. This lineup engages with a repertoire of original compositions centered around the stylistic currents of post-bop, soul-jazz, and contemporary blues.

Conceived and written throughout 2024, the recording explores core themes such as gratitude, intergenerational homage, and personal grief. The tracks alternate between high-energy rhythmic passages celebrating the New York urban jazz scene and pieces dedicated to the memory of his mentors—such as trumpeter Thara Memory—and close family members.

The work stands out for a collective interplay that prioritizes melodic development and structural freedom over individual bravado, cementing Domo Branch's presence on the global jazz stage.
