I – Igor Osypov Quintet
I is the debut album by Ukrainian guitarist and composer Igor Osypov, released via Unit Records. Recorded at RecPublica Studios in Poland and mixed by Kurt Rosenwinkel, the record builds an aesthetic bridge between the schools of contemporary European jazz and the American avant-garde.
The lineup is structured as an international quintet featuring Logan Richardson (alto sax), Elias Stemeseder (piano), Martin Buhl (double bass), alongside Jesús Vega and Kuba Gudz (drums). The nine original compositions, penned entirely by Osypov, explore odd time signatures, cinematic atmospheres, and fusion textures that range from classical-tinged ballads to rhythmic developments bordering on underground hip-hop.
Driven by a constant interplay between guitar lines and saxophone improvisations, the repertoire stands out for its balance between ensemble precision and an expressive freedom that challenges traditional harmonic progressions.
