Origin – Joey Alexander

Origin is Joey Alexander’s sixth studio album and his official debut on the Mack Avenue Records label. It is the first record in the pianist's discography composed entirely of original material.

The album features his trusted trio integrated by Larry Grenadier on upright bass and Kendrick Scott on drums, expanded at key moments by the participation of Gilad Hekselman on electric guitar and Chris Potter on soprano and tenor saxophones. This expanded instrumentation sustains an aesthetic proposition that balances modern jazz tradition with a markedly contemporary compositional sensibility.

The pieces, conceived as a reflection on the cycle of the seasons and the spirit of resilience in the face of adversity, flow smoothly between the precision of structured arrangements and openness to collective improvisation.
