Pacifiques Biches – Florian Pellissier Quintet

Pacifiques Biches represents an aesthetic turning point for the Florian Pellissier Quintet (FPQ). After more than twenty years of history without a single change in its original lineup, the band demonstrates a musical telepathy that allows them to transition from the grittiest groove to the most ethereal improvisation without losing cohesion.

The album serves as both a geographical and emotional travelogue. Recorded under the influence of the Pacific coast, the record moves away from rigid scores to seek a freedom born of maturity. Highlights include "Movie Critic," an exercise in pure cinematic groove; "Archie y John," where the legend Archie Shepp lends his poetic voice; and the surprising collaboration with Iggy Pop on "Only Fan."

Musically, the album balances the precision of modern European jazz with a very contemporary pop and electronic sensibility. The presence of harmonicist Grégoire Maret and references to the Barranquilla Carnival underscore the nomadic nature of a quintet that, in this album, has found its most sophisticated and profound harbor.
