Aspects – STR4TA

Aspects by STR4TA revisits the raw spirit of early-80s Brit-funk, a musical territory where jazz, funk, and club culture collided to produce a sound driven by groove and collective energy.

Created by the partnership between influential broadcaster and DJ Gilles Peterson and musician and composer Jean-Paul Maunick, the project seeks to capture the immediacy that defined that era. Basslines pulse with urgency, drums strike with minimal polish, and arrangements leave space for the raw momentum of performance.

Rather than a nostalgic exercise, Aspects functions as a reactivation of a musical lineage. Through this project, STR4TA demonstrates how the legacy of Brit-funk continues to inform contemporary jazz and groove culture, reminding listeners that some sounds remain powerful precisely because they were born on the dancefloor.
