The Bad Plus Joshua Redman – The Bad Plus Joshua Redman

The Bad Plus Joshua Redman is the debut album by the quartet formed by Joshua Redman (saxophone), Ethan Iverson (piano), Reid Anderson (bass), and David King (drums), released by Nonesuch Records in 2015.

The repertoire features seven original compositions written by the quartet's members alongside newly reimagined versions of "Dirty Blonde" and "Silence Is the Question," two compositions previously recorded by The Bad Plus. The permanent addition of the saxophone reshapes the ensemble's internal dynamics while preserving the democratic identity that has long defined the trio.

The music alternates between rhythmically intricate structures, episodes of open improvisation, and passages of striking lyricism, creating a body of work in which composition serves as the foundation for collective interaction.

Widely regarded as one of the strongest collaborative projects in contemporary jazz, the album marked a new creative chapter for The Bad Plus while expanding Joshua Redman's interpretive language within a profoundly collective musical setting.
