Yazz Ahmed – Trumpeter and Composer

Yazz Ahmed is a British-Bahraini trumpeter, flugelhornist, and composer whose work connects contemporary jazz with scales, rhythms, stories, and musical traditions rooted in Bahrain.

From her debut Finding My Way Home to works such as La Saboteuse, Polyhymnia, and A Paradise In The Hold, Ahmedhas developed a distinctive musical language shaped by expansive narrative structures, improvisation, electronics, and an increasingly profound exploration of her cultural identity.

Her career includes collaborations with Radiohead, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Arturo O’Farrill, Natacha Atlas, and These New Puritans, alongside international performances and distinctions including the Ivor Novello Award for Innovation.

Her work places the trumpet and flugelhorn within a compositional world where jazz becomes a meeting point for memory, heritage, experimentation, and storytelling.
